Description
Cristec DC-24-12/60PL DC-DC converter charger
Cristec DC-24-12/60PL is the DC POWER+ model listed as 24VDC input to 12VDC output at 60A. A DC-DC charger should be selected around the complete charging system, not the headline current alone. Source voltage, destination battery voltage and chemistry, expected current, cable length, protection, control wiring, ventilation and the other charging sources connected to the battery bank all need to be checked before installation.

Input and output matching
Confirm the voltage available at the source and the nominal voltage of the battery or DC system being supplied. The model reference and the current Cristec documentation should be checked together before wiring. On a refit, identify whether the source is an alternator-fed start bank, another battery bank or a regulated DC supply. Voltage measured at the equipment under load can differ from a no-load reading, so cable condition and voltage drop should be considered when deciding whether existing conductors can be reused.
Battery chemistry and charging requirements
If the output is charging a battery bank, identify its chemistry, capacity and manufacturer charging limits. Lithium and lead-acid banks can require different charge profiles and protective arrangements. A DC-DC charger may also operate alongside a shore charger, solar controller or other charge source, so all devices connected to the destination bank should be reviewed as one system. Settings that were correct for an earlier battery installation should not automatically be carried over after a battery change.
Cable sizing, isolation and protection
DC charging circuits can carry substantial current. Cable size should account for current, route length and acceptable voltage drop, with suitable protection on the source and output sides as required by the installation. Keep terminations clean, secure and protected from accidental short circuit. Inspect existing isolators, fuses, busbars and lugs for heat damage or corrosion. Support heavier cables so they do not strain the converter terminals, and route wiring away from sharp edges, heat and water.
Mounting and service access
Install the converter in the location and orientation specified by Cristec, allowing the required airflow and access to terminals, indicators and configuration points. Avoid enclosed positions where heat can build up or where the unit may be exposed to spray or mechanical damage. When replacing older equipment, compare dimensions and cable-entry positions before modifying the mounting surface. A clear, labelled installation is easier to commission and significantly easier to fault-find later.
Commissioning the DC-DC system
Before energising, verify input and output polarity, supply and battery voltages, cable protection and terminal security. Bring the system online in a controlled sequence and confirm that the destination battery or load receives the expected charging supply without alarms. Measure voltage at the source, converter and destination under load where practical so excessive drop can be identified. Check operation with other charge sources and normal vessel loads, then record the final settings and wiring arrangement.

Before ordering Cristec DC-24-12/60PL
Send F&C Marine the vessel type, source voltage and equipment, destination battery voltage, chemistry and capacity, existing charger details, approximate cable lengths and photographs of the installation. If this is a fault replacement, include symptoms and measurements already taken. We can then help confirm the model, associated equipment and installation requirements and check current availability before quotation.
