Description

Cristec HPO12-90-CERT HPOWER marine battery charger

Cristec HPO12-90-CERT is the CERT-version HPOWER high-output charger for 12 V marine battery systems. The CERT suffix is part of the exact model identification, so certification documentation and installation requirements should be checked for the vessel rather than assuming the standard HPO12-90 and CERT version are interchangeable for every application. F&C Marine can help confirm the exact model, documentation and installation requirements before supply.

Certification and model matching

Where a certified charger is specified, establish the vessel, class, flag, project or customer requirement before ordering. Keep the full HPO12-90-CERT model reference on quotations and technical records and obtain the applicable current certificate or approval documentation for the equipment. The precise scope and conditions of any approval should be taken from the manufacturer’s documents rather than inferred from the model suffix. If the charger is being replaced, compare the old approval details with the project requirement.

Battery bank and charging profile

Record the nominal 12 V bank voltage, battery chemistry, capacity and arrangement. Check the battery manufacturer’s permitted charge rate and any profile requirements. A high-output charger must suit the batteries as well as the certification requirement. If the vessel has changed battery technology or capacity, old settings should not simply be reused. Confirm the charging configuration against current Cristec instructions and the battery manufacturer’s documentation before commissioning.

AC supply, DC cables and protection

Inspect the AC feed, isolation and protective devices and confirm they suit the certified installation. High-current DC cabling needs the correct conductor size, route and termination quality. Excessive voltage drop or poor lugs can reduce charging performance and create heat. Existing cables should only be reused when their rating and condition are appropriate. Where the project has survey or documentation requirements, record cable and protective-device information as part of the completed installation.

Mounting, ventilation and access

Install the charger in a protected position with the clearances and ventilation specified by Cristec and any applicable approval conditions. Leave service access to terminals, indicators and protective devices. Do not alter the enclosure or mounting arrangement in a way that conflicts with manufacturer instructions. Support heavy DC cables independently to reduce mechanical load on terminals and make future inspection easier.

Commissioning and records

Before energising, verify polarity, wiring, protection, battery profile and the required installation documentation. Check charging status, alarms and voltage at the charger and battery under appropriate conditions. If several outputs are used, verify each intended connection. Record model and serial information, final settings and relevant test results. Where a surveyor or customer requires evidence, retain the applicable certificate and commissioning information with the vessel records.

Documentation and related support

For manufacturer information, see Cristec battery chargers. Use the current HPOWER CERT documentation as the final reference for approval scope, electrical requirements and installation. F&C Marine also provides a Marine Electronics Knowledge Base covering related marine electrical systems.

Before ordering Cristec HPO12-90-CERT

Send the vessel and project details, required approval or certification, battery chemistry and capacity, existing charger information, photographs, AC supply details and cable lengths. If replacing a fault, include symptoms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether Cristec HPO12-90-CERT is the required certified version and identify the documentation and installation work needed before quotation.
