Description
Cristec HPO24-100 HPOWER marine battery charger
Cristec HPO24-100 is an HPOWER high-output battery charger for 24 V marine DC systems. A high-output charger needs to be matched to the battery bank and the vessel electrical installation rather than selected from current rating alone. Battery chemistry and capacity, AC supply, DC conductor size, protection, ventilation and cable routing all need to be checked. F&C Marine can help confirm whether HPO24-100 is suitable before supply.
Battery-bank matching
Record the nominal 24 V battery-bank voltage, chemistry, total capacity and the way domestic, engine-start or auxiliary banks are arranged. Check the existing charger’s outputs and the battery manufacturer’s permitted charge rates. If the vessel has changed battery chemistry or increased bank capacity, the old charger settings may no longer be appropriate. Use current Cristec documentation together with the battery manufacturer’s requirements when selecting and commissioning the charging profile.
AC input and high-current DC cabling
Inspect the AC source, isolation and protective devices and confirm that they suit the charger. On the DC side, conductor size and connection quality are particularly important at higher charging currents. Cable sizing must account for current, route length and acceptable voltage drop. Loose, corroded or heat-damaged terminals can restrict charging and create heat. Existing heavy cables should only be reused after their rating, insulation, route and terminations have been checked.
Mounting, ventilation and access
Install the charger in a dry and protected position with the ventilation and clearances specified by Cristec. Avoid locations where water, excessive heat or stored equipment can obstruct airflow. Leave access to terminals, indicators and protective devices. Compare the enclosure dimensions and cable-entry positions before using an old mounting space. Support heavy DC cables independently so vibration and cable weight do not place unnecessary mechanical stress on the charger terminals.
Commissioning under realistic load
Before energising, confirm polarity, terminal security, protection and battery configuration. Verify the selected battery profile, observe charging status and check for alarms. Measure voltage at the charger and battery where appropriate to identify excessive cable drop. If several outputs or banks are used, verify each connection. Observe the system under a realistic charging load and check for abnormal heating. Record the final settings, cable sizes and battery details for later service.
Fault finding before replacement
Slow charging or flat batteries can result from weak batteries, a poor AC supply, high-resistance terminals, isolation devices or incorrect settings rather than a failed charger. Check each stage and record alarm messages before removing the old unit. Measurements taken while the fault is present are useful because moving heavy cables during replacement can temporarily restore an intermittent connection. Battery condition should be assessed alongside charger output so the underlying cause is not missed.
Documentation and related support

Before ordering Cristec HPO24-100
Send the vessel type, battery chemistry and capacity, current charger model, photographs of the electrical installation, AC supply information and approximate DC cable lengths. If this is a fault replacement, include symptoms, alarm information and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether Cristec HPO24-100 is correctly matched and identify any changes to cabling, protection, ventilation or mounting before quotation.
