Description

Cristec YP024-25STPL marine battery charger

Cristec YP024-25STPL is a YPOWER+ marine battery charger in the 24 V range. Choosing a replacement charger requires the complete battery system to be checked, including bank voltage and capacity, chemistry, AC feed, DC cable size, protection, ventilation and how the vessel’s banks are arranged. F&C Marine can help review the installation and confirm whether YP024-25STPL is the appropriate Cristec model before supply.

Battery-bank matching

Identify the nominal battery voltage, chemistry and total capacity, then record how engine-start, domestic and auxiliary banks are connected. Check the old charger’s model and output wiring rather than assuming an identical physical location means an identical electrical application. If the batteries have been changed since the original installation, confirm that the selected charging profile is suitable. Current Cristec documentation and the battery manufacturer’s charging limits should both be followed.

AC supply and DC wiring

Inspect the AC source, isolation and protective devices feeding the charger. On the DC side, conductor size must suit current, cable length and acceptable voltage drop. Terminations should be clean, secure and protected from accidental short circuit. Existing wiring can be reused only when its rating, route and condition remain appropriate. Corroded or heat-damaged lugs and undersized conductors can limit charging performance and may create symptoms that are wrongly attributed to the charger itself.

Mounting and ventilation

Choose a dry, protected location with the airflow and clearances required by Cristec. Avoid direct water exposure, excessive heat and spaces where ventilation can be blocked. Leave access to terminals, protective devices, indicators and any communications. If replacing an older charger, compare dimensions and cable-entry positions before modifying the mounting surface. Support heavier DC conductors so their weight and vibration do not place unnecessary strain on the terminals.

Commissioning and charging checks

Before energising the unit, confirm polarity, cable security and protective-device ratings. Verify the actual battery-bank voltage and any selectable battery profile or charging configuration. Observe the charger’s status and alarms, and measure voltage at the charger and battery where appropriate to identify excessive cable drop. If the installation uses more than one output or battery bank, confirm each intended connection. Record the final settings and battery details for future service.

Fault finding before replacement

Poor charging can be caused by the AC supply, fuses or breakers, battery isolators, DC connections or the batteries themselves. A high-resistance terminal may allow a charger to appear healthy while voltage at the battery remains low. If an existing charger is intermittent, record alarms and measurements before disconnecting it. Once cables are moved, an intermittent connection can temporarily recover and hide the original cause. A systematic diagnosis avoids replacing serviceable equipment unnecessarily.

Documentation and related support

For manufacturer information, see Cristec battery chargers. The current Cristec installation manual should be the final reference for input supply, battery profiles, cable sizing, protection and mounting clearances. F&C Marine also provides a Marine Electronics Knowledge Base covering wider vessel electrical and marine-electronics installation topics.

Before ordering Cristec YP024-25STPL

Send the vessel type, existing charger model, battery voltage, chemistry and capacity, photographs of the charger and battery wiring, AC supply details and approximate cable lengths. If this is a fault replacement, include symptoms, alarms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether Cristec YP024-25STPL is correctly matched, identify any wiring or mounting changes and check current availability before quotation.
