Icom IC-M430E Overview
The Icom IC-M430E brings together marine VHF communications, digital selective
calling and modern vessel-network connectivity in a compact fixed-mount radio.
It is designed for yachts, leisure boats, RIBs, workboats and other vessels where a dependable
25 W VHF/DSC radio is required without taking up excessive space behind the helm.
A colour TFT LCD gives the radio a modern appearance while providing clear access to channel,
DSC and operating information. The radio also incorporates its own GPS/GNSS receiver and antenna,
allowing position information to be available to supported DSC functions without necessarily
relying on a separate navigation receiver.
For integration into a larger navigation system, the IC-M430E supports both
NMEA 2000™ and NMEA 0183-HS. This makes it suitable for both newer networked
marine electronics installations and vessels that still use NMEA 0183 equipment.
Colour TFT LCD
A vivid colour display with selectable Day, Day-Black and Night display modes helps provide
a clear operating view in changing light conditions.
Modern NMEA Connectivity
Built-in NMEA 2000™ and NMEA 0183-HS support provides useful integration options for
compatible navigation and marine electronics equipment.
Built-in GPS / GNSS
An integrated GPS/GNSS receiver and antenna provides position information, with provision
for an external GNSS antenna where installation conditions require one.
Slimline Chassis
The IC-M430E has a substantially reduced installation depth, making it easier to fit behind
modern helm consoles where available space can be limited.
Icom IC-M430E Colour TFT Display
One of the most noticeable features of the Icom IC-M430E is its colour TFT LCD.
Rather than using a traditional monochrome marine-radio display, the screen provides a clearer
visual presentation of channel and operating information.
Three selectable display modes are provided: Day, Day-Black and Night.
This allows the operator to select a display presentation that better suits bright daytime
conditions, darker helm environments or night operation.
Icom IC-M430E Class D DSC & Distress Calling
The radio incorporates Class D Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and a dedicated
distress button. Once correctly programmed with the vessel’s MMSI, DSC can be used for supported
distress, safety and routine digital calling functions.
The built-in GPS/GNSS receiver is particularly useful for DSC because position information can be
made available to the radio without depending solely on an external GPS source.

Icom IC-M430E NMEA 2000™ & NMEA 0183-HS
Modern marine radios increasingly form part of a larger vessel electronics network, rather than
operating as completely isolated equipment. The IC-M430E supports both
NMEA 2000™ and NMEA 0183-HS, giving installers useful flexibility when connecting
the radio to compatible onboard electronics.
NMEA 2000 is widely used on modern vessels because multiple compatible devices can share a common
network backbone. NMEA 0183 remains common on older and mixed-generation installations.
Having support for both standards can therefore be particularly useful when upgrading a radio
without replacing the rest of the vessel’s electronics.

Compact Icom IC-M430E Installation
Space behind a modern helm can quickly become limited once chartplotters, switching equipment,
power distribution, steering components and cabling are installed. The IC-M430E has been designed
with this in mind.
Icom states that the radio’s body depth has been reduced by more than
50% compared with the IC-M423GE. It also retains the same front-panel and
flush-mount dimensions, making it particularly interesting for replacement and upgrade work.
This reduced depth can simplify installation where a conventional fixed VHF would otherwise
conflict with wiring, structural panels or other equipment behind the console.

Icom IC-M430E Hailer & Foghorn Functions
The IC-M430E provides PA/hailer and foghorn functionality when used with suitable
external equipment. This can be useful on vessels where the marine VHF is also required to provide
deck communication or audible signalling through an external horn speaker.
The Icom SP-37 external hailer horn speaker is one of the related accessories shown for this
radio installation.

Icom IC-M430E Marine VHF Antenna Installation
A fixed marine VHF radio is only one part of the complete communications system.
A suitable VHF antenna, correctly selected coaxial cable and properly fitted connectors are also required.
Antenna height, mounting position and cable loss can all affect practical communications range.
For many fixed VHF installations, the
AC Antennas CX4-3 Marine VHF Antenna
is one product worth considering.
