Description

Koden MDC-5205 marine radar

Koden MDC-5205 is a Koden marine radar configuration supplied with the RB-805 scanner and 15m cable. A radar replacement should be planned as a complete installation rather than as a display swap: scanner type, mounting, cable route, power, navigation-data inputs and bridge integration all need to suit the vessel. F&C Marine can help confirm that MDC-5205 is the correct configuration before equipment is ordered.

Configuration and model matching

The MDC-5200 family contains several closely related versions, so the full model code should be retained on quotations and vessel records. Before a replacement is selected, record the existing scanner, cable length and route, supply voltage, circuit protection and any navigation equipment connected to the radar. Photographs of the current scanner, display, transceiver or processor, connector panels and cable labels can help identify what can reasonably be retained and what needs to be renewed.

Installation planning

The scanner needs a secure mounting position with appropriate clearance, while interconnection cabling needs a protected route into the vessel. Existing cables should only be reused after their type, condition and compatibility have been confirmed. Water ingress, corrosion, crushed cable, damaged plugs and previous alterations can create intermittent faults that are easily mistaken for a problem with new radar equipment. The display and processing equipment should also remain accessible for operation and future service.

Power and navigation data

A reliable radar installation depends on stable power and the correct external data. Supply wiring and circuit protection should be checked for the equipment being fitted. Heading, position, speed and AIS information may be provided by other bridge systems, and each required source should be identified before installation. A fault elsewhere in the vessel data network can affect radar functions even when the radar itself is healthy, so interfaces should be checked as part of the refit rather than after a problem appears.

Commissioning the complete radar

Commissioning should prove more than that the display turns on. Check scanner operation, supply voltage under load, target presentation, alarms, controls and any required heading or navigation data. Where radar information is used alongside AIS or GNSS equipment, verify the relevant inputs and outputs. If the radar is being replaced because of a fault, compare the new installation with the original symptoms so an existing power, cable or external-sensor problem is not left unresolved.

Documentation and related guidance

For current manufacturer information, see Koden marine radar information. The applicable Koden installation and operation manuals should be the final reference for dimensions, cable application, electrical limits and setup. Before ordering Koden MDC-5205

Send the vessel type, existing radar model, photographs of the scanner and bridge equipment, cable details, supply voltage and the make and model of connected navigation equipment. If the change follows a fault, include symptoms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm the exact MDC-5205 arrangement, current availability and likely accessories or installation requirements before a quotation is finalised. Checking the complete installation first can prevent unnecessary parts being ordered for an underlying cable, power or data problem.
