Description

LCJ CV3F-BARO3 ultrasonic wind sensor

LCJ CV3F-BARO3 is an LCJ ultrasonic wind-sensor configuration that adds the BARO3 barometric interface arrangement to the CV3F platform. It is intended for installations where wind information and barometric data need to be integrated into the vessel or site instrumentation. Correct performance depends on clear airflow, secure mounting, suitable power and the right data interface. F&C Marine can help confirm the complete configuration before supply.

Wind and barometric data

The CV3F family measures wind electronically without conventional rotating cups or a vane. The BARO3 variant adds barometric functionality through the associated interface arrangement. When specifying the system, identify exactly which wind and pressure information the receiving equipment expects and which interface is available. The sensor should not be selected by model family alone; the suffix matters because related LCJ variants are intended for different data and instrument arrangements.

Mounting and clear airflow

Wind-sensor location has a major effect on accuracy. The sensor should be positioned where nearby masts, aerials, rigging, exhausts and structures have the least practical influence on airflow. The mounting must be rigid and correctly aligned. If an existing sensor is being replaced, review the previous location rather than automatically using it. Changes to mast equipment can alter the airflow around an old position, and a wiring fault or poor site can remain even after a new sensor is fitted.

Power, BARO3 and data integration

Before installation, identify the power supply, cable route, BARO3 connection and receiving instruments. Protect cables from water, heat, sharp edges and mechanical damage. Data connections should be labelled so the source and destination are clear for future service. If the new sensor will feed more than one display or navigation system, verify the required interface and message compatibility before wiring. A correct mechanical installation can still fail to provide useful information if the data arrangement does not match the receiving equipment.

Commissioning the installation

After fitting, verify plausible wind speed, wind direction and barometric information at the intended displays or data systems. Check sensor orientation and compare the indicated wind direction with the physical installation. Confirm that pressure information is present and stable. Where data is distributed to multiple devices, check each receiving point. Record the installed model, mounting orientation, cable route and interface arrangement so later troubleshooting does not depend on dismantling the installation.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

An ultrasonic sensor has no conventional cup or vane bearings, but the installation still requires inspection. Check the sensor body, mounting, exposed cable and connectors for damage or contamination. If wind or pressure data becomes intermittent, first check supply voltage, wiring, BARO3 connections and the receiving equipment. A data or power fault may look like a failed sensor. If only one item of data is missing, tracing the relevant interface can be more useful than replacing the complete unit.

Documentation and related guidance

See LCJ Capteurs products and the LCJ support area for manufacturer information. Use the applicable LCJ documentation as the final reference for wiring, BARO3 connections, mounting and configuration. Before ordering LCJ CV3F-BARO3

Send the vessel or site type, current wind and pressure equipment, photographs of the mounting position, cable-route details, supply voltage and the make and model of receiving instruments. If this is a replacement for a fault, include symptoms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm the LCJ CV3F-BARO3 configuration and any interface, mounting or installation parts likely to be required before a quotation is issued.
