Description
LCJ CV3F-WINDYPLUG ultrasonic wind sensor
LCJ CV3F-WINDYPLUG combines the CV3F ultrasonic wind-sensor platform with LCJ’s WindyPlug interface arrangement for integration with compatible marine instrumentation. The correct variant matters because related CV3F products use different output and interface options. Mounting position, airflow, power, cable routing and the receiving network all need to be considered together. F&C Marine can help confirm the intended system before supply.
Ultrasonic wind measurement
The CV3F measures wind without conventional rotating cups or a mechanical vane. Removing moving measuring parts can simplify routine maintenance, but it does not remove the need for good installation practice. Nearby structures can disturb airflow and introduce errors, so the sensor should be located where mast sections, aerials, rigging, exhausts and other obstructions have the least practical effect. Correct orientation is equally important if the displayed wind direction is to correspond with the vessel or site reference.
WindyPlug interface planning
The WindyPlug variant is intended to make the wind data available through the associated LCJ interface arrangement. Before ordering, identify the receiving equipment and the network or data connection it expects. Check whether the existing installation already contains compatible wiring and whether any old interface unit will be removed or retained. Data systems should be planned from source to destination so the wind information can be verified at every device that needs it after installation.
Power, mounting and cable route
The sensor mounting needs to be rigid and correctly aligned, with a cable route protected from water, heat, sharp edges and mechanical damage. If the sensor is replacing older equipment, do not automatically reuse an old mount or cable simply because it is convenient. Inspect the condition, route and termination first. Confirm the available power supply and circuit protection for the intended installation. Photograph and label existing connections before removal so the new arrangement can be commissioned methodically.
Commissioning and data checks
After installation, verify plausible wind speed and direction at the receiving display or network device. Check the sensor orientation against the vessel centreline or site reference and confirm that the WindyPlug data is being received consistently. If multiple bridge devices use the same information, compare the displayed values. A missing reading on one device may point to the data network or receiving equipment rather than the sensor itself. Record the final model and interface arrangement for future service.
Maintenance and fault finding
Ultrasonic sensors have no conventional cup or vane bearings, but exposed equipment and cabling still need inspection. Check the sensor for contamination and damage, verify that the mount remains secure and inspect accessible connectors for corrosion or moisture. If data becomes intermittent, check power, cable, WindyPlug interface and receiving equipment before condemning the sensor. A network fault can produce symptoms that appear identical to a failed wind instrument.

Before ordering LCJ CV3F-WINDYPLUG
Send the vessel or site type, existing wind instrument, photographs of the mounting position, cable route, supply voltage and details of the equipment or network that needs wind data. If this is a fault replacement, include symptoms and previous tests. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether LCJ CV3F-WINDYPLUG is the correct interface variant and identify the mounting, network and installation requirements before quotation.
