Description
LCJ CV7-C ultrasonic wind sensor
LCJ CV7-C is a CV7-series ultrasonic wind-sensor configuration for marine and professional wind measurement. The exact CV7 variant should always be identified when replacing equipment because mounting and interface arrangements differ across the range. F&C Marine can help confirm the intended CV7-C application, receiving equipment, power and installation arrangement before supply.
Ultrasonic wind measurement
The CV7 family measures wind electronically without conventional rotating cups or a mechanical vane. This removes moving measuring parts but does not remove the need for good sensor positioning. Wind reaching the sensor can be disturbed by masts, aerials, rigging, superstructure and other obstructions, so the mounting position should be chosen to provide the cleanest practical airflow. Correct physical orientation is also important if direction data is to be meaningful.
Configuration and interface matching
Before ordering CV7-C, identify the display, instrument, logger or navigation equipment that needs the wind information. Record the existing sensor and interface arrangement, including any converter or junction box. Do not assume that another CV7 model can be substituted without checking the suffix and connection requirements. Older installations may contain modified wiring or third-party interfaces from previous refits, making photographs and model numbers particularly useful when planning replacement work.
Mounting, power and cable route
The sensor needs a rigid mount and a cable route protected from chafe, crushing, sharp edges and water ingress. Check any mast or deck penetration and inspect existing connectors for corrosion before reuse. Confirm the available power supply and circuit protection. If replacing older equipment, label and photograph the existing wiring before disconnection. A hidden cable defect or poor supply can remain after a new sensor is installed and create symptoms that appear to be a sensor fault.
Commissioning and wind-data checks
After installation, verify plausible wind speed and direction on the receiving equipment. Check sensor orientation and any configuration required by the instrument system. If the wind data is distributed to several devices, compare values at each destination. Test while other vessel electronics are operating and investigate any intermittent reading before handover. Record the final model, mount, cable route, interface and receiving equipment for future maintenance and troubleshooting.
Maintenance and fault finding
Routine inspection should cover the sensor body, mounting, exposed cable and accessible connections. Look for contamination, physical damage, corrosion or moisture. If wind data becomes intermittent or disappears, test the power supply and data path before condemning the sensor. If only one receiving display is affected, the fault may be in that device or its connection. Accurate installation records help separate a sensor problem from a wiring or network problem.
Documentation and related guidance
For LCJ information, see LCJ Capteurs products and the LCJ support area. Use the current manufacturer documentation as the final reference for the CV7-C configuration, mounting and interface. Before ordering LCJ CV7-C
Send the vessel or site type, current wind equipment, photographs of the sensor mounting and connections, cable-route information, supply voltage and the model of the receiving instrument. If the product is replacing a fault, include symptoms and previous tests. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether LCJ CV7-C is the correct variant and identify any interface, mounting or installation parts needed before quotation.
