Description
LCJ CV7-C-WINDYPLUG ultrasonic wind sensor
LCJ CV7-C-WINDYPLUG is a CV7-C ultrasonic wind-sensor configuration with LCJ’s WindyPlug interface for NMEA 2000 integration. The exact interface variant matters when a vessel wind system is being replaced or upgraded, because related CV7 models use different connection arrangements. F&C Marine can help confirm the sensor, network and receiving equipment before supply.
Ultrasonic wind measurement
The CV7 family measures wind electronically without conventional rotating cups or a mechanical vane. This removes moving measuring parts but does not eliminate the need for correct positioning. The sensor should receive the cleanest practical airflow, away from disturbance created by nearby mast structures, aerials, rigging and other obstructions. Correct physical orientation is important for direction data and should be checked before the installation is commissioned.
WindyPlug and NMEA 2000
Before connecting the WindyPlug, inspect the vessel’s NMEA 2000 network. Confirm that the backbone is properly terminated, powered and in good physical condition, and identify the connection point for the wind sensor. Existing voltage drop, damaged T-pieces, poor connectors or incorrect termination can create intermittent data. The receiving displays and navigation equipment should also be identified so wind information can be checked at every intended destination after installation.
Mounting, power and cable route
Inspect the sensor mounting and cable route before fitting. Protect the wiring from chafe, sharp edges, crushing and water ingress. If an old cable or bracket is to be reused, confirm its condition and compatibility. Label and photograph existing connections before removal. The sensor and interface need suitable power, and the NMEA 2000 network supply should remain within the manufacturer’s requirements under operating conditions rather than only during an unloaded test.
Commissioning and network checks
After installation, verify plausible wind speed and direction on the NMEA 2000 displays. Check the sensor orientation and compare values across receiving devices. If one display is missing data but others are correct, investigate that device and its network path before treating the sensor as faulty. Check network voltage and any relevant alarms under normal operating conditions. Record the fitted model, WindyPlug location and network connection for future service.
Maintenance and troubleshooting
Routine inspection should include the wind sensor, mount, cable, WindyPlug and accessible network connectors. Look for physical damage, contamination, corrosion and moisture. If data becomes intermittent, verify network power and termination as well as the sensor. A healthy ultrasonic sensor on a weak or incorrectly constructed NMEA 2000 network may appear unreliable. Keeping accurate network records makes later fault finding faster and reduces unnecessary component replacement.

Before ordering LCJ CV7-C-WINDYPLUG
Send the vessel type, existing wind equipment, photographs of the sensor mounting and NMEA 2000 network, cable-route details and the make and model of the displays that need wind information. If this is a fault replacement, include symptoms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether LCJ CV7-C-WINDYPLUG is the correct interface version and identify any network or installation work required.
