Description

LCJ CV7-SIL ultrasonic wind sensor

LCJ CV7-SIL is a short-arm masthead ultrasonic wind-sensor configuration with a 25m cable and interface intended for compatible Silva, Nexus NX2 and Furuno FI30 wind systems. Exact instrument compatibility should be checked before ordering because older vessels often contain mixed-generation displays or converters. F&C Marine can help identify the existing equipment and confirm whether CV7-SIL is the correct replacement arrangement.

Ultrasonic wind measurement

The CV7 measures wind speed and direction electronically without conventional rotating cups or a mechanical vane. This removes moving measuring parts but the sensor still depends on clean airflow. Mount it where mast structure, standing rigging, aerials and other obstructions have the least practical influence. Correct alignment is important for wind direction, and the mounting should be secure enough that orientation cannot change under vibration or weather.

SIL interface compatibility

The SIL version is intended for the specified compatible instrument families, but brand name alone is not enough to prove a match. Record the exact display, server or wind-instrument model and photograph the existing connections. Previous refits may have added interfaces or non-standard wiring. Confirming the complete signal path before purchase helps avoid finding that a vessel has a different generation of instrument than expected once the masthead sensor has already been removed.

Masthead mounting and cable route

Plan the 25m cable route from the masthead to the interface or receiving equipment. Protect the cable from chafe, crushing, sharp edges and water ingress. Inspect any mast or deck penetration, cable gland and junction point before reuse. If the old sensor mount will be retained, verify that its dimensions and condition are suitable for CV7. Photograph and label existing wiring before disconnection so the new system can be commissioned methodically.

Commissioning and instrument checks

After installation, verify plausible wind speed and direction at the connected display. Check physical sensor orientation and any calibration or offset settings required by the instrument system. If wind information is repeated to several displays, compare the values at each location. Test the system with other equipment operating and resolve intermittent or missing data before handover. Record the sensor model, interface and cable arrangement for future service.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

Routine inspection should cover the sensor body, mounting, exposed cable and accessible connectors. Look for contamination, physical damage, corrosion or moisture. If data becomes unreliable, check power, interface wiring and receiving instruments before assuming the sensor itself has failed. A damaged mast cable or a poor connection at an older display can produce the same symptoms as a faulty wind sensor and may be disturbed temporarily during replacement.

Documentation and related guidance

For LCJ information, see LCJ Capteurs products and LCJ support downloads. Current manufacturer documentation should be the final reference for SIL interface compatibility, wiring and mounting. F&C Marine also provides an ultrasonic wind-sensor guide and the Marine Electronics Knowledge Base.

Before ordering LCJ CV7-SIL

Send the vessel type, exact Silva, Nexus or Furuno instrument models, photographs of the masthead and display connections, cable-route information and a description of any existing interface units. If replacing a fault, include symptoms and previous tests. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether LCJ CV7-SIL is the correct variant and identify any mounting or installation work required before quotation.
