Description

LCJ CV7-STBG ultrasonic wind sensor

LCJ CV7-STBG is a short-arm masthead ultrasonic wind-sensor configuration supplied with a 25m cable and an interface intended for compatible Raymarine and B&G wind systems. The exact suffix matters because the CV7 family includes different interface versions. F&C Marine can help check the existing instruments, masthead arrangement and wiring before supply so the new sensor is matched to the vessel.

Ultrasonic wind measurement

The CV7 measures wind without conventional rotating cups or a mechanical vane. This removes moving measuring parts but does not remove the need for clean airflow. The masthead position should minimise disturbance from nearby aerials, rigging and structures, and the sensor must be aligned correctly. If an older wind sensor is being replaced, review the masthead layout and mounting condition rather than assuming the previous position is still the best location.

STBG interface compatibility

The STBG configuration is intended for compatibility with specified Raymarine and B&G wind-system families. Before ordering, record the exact make and model of the existing display or instrument system rather than relying on the brand name alone. Older installations can contain mixed displays, converters or wiring left from previous refits. Confirming the receiving equipment and cable arrangement first reduces the risk of ordering the wrong CV7 variant or discovering an additional interface requirement during installation.

Masthead mounting and cable route

Plan the 25m cable route before fitting the sensor. Protect the cable from chafe, sharp edges, crushing and unnecessary strain. Check mast penetrations, deck glands and connection points for water ingress or corrosion. If the new unit is replacing an existing masthead sensor, inspect the bracket or adaptor and verify that it is appropriate for CV7. Label connections before removing old equipment so the new interface can be commissioned systematically.

Commissioning and instrument checks

After fitting, verify plausible wind speed and direction at the connected instrument system. Check the physical sensor orientation and any required calibration or offset in accordance with the manufacturer documentation. Test the installation with other navigation equipment running and confirm that wind information reaches every display or system expected to use it. If one display behaves differently from the others, trace the interface and receiving equipment before treating the sensor as faulty.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

Inspect the masthead sensor for contamination, physical damage and secure mounting, and check accessible cable and connection points for deterioration. If data becomes intermittent, check supply, STBG interface wiring and receiving instruments. A damaged mast cable or poor connection can create symptoms that appear to come from the wind sensor. Keep a record of the fitted model and interface so future service work can identify the configuration without taking the installation apart.

Documentation and related guidance

See LCJ Capteurs products and LCJ support downloads for manufacturer information. Current LCJ documentation should be used as the final reference for STBG compatibility, mounting and wiring. F&C Marine also provides an ultrasonic vs mechanical wind-sensor guide and a Marine Electronics Knowledge Base.

Before ordering LCJ CV7-STBG

Send the vessel type, exact Raymarine or B&G instrument models, photographs of the masthead sensor and display, cable-route details and a description of the existing wiring. If the project follows a fault, include symptoms and tests already completed. F&C Marine can then help confirm whether LCJ CV7-STBG is the correct interface version and identify the mounting or installation parts needed before quotation.
